In just over a year as Flamengo coach, Filipe Luis achieved his fourth title with the red and black team by winning the Copa Libertadores on Saturday (29th) over Palmeiras.
Making a great start as coach, taking over after Tite’s departure, the former full-back was keen to thank Flamengo for the opportunity he received from the board to develop his work at Javea.
“In my life I always thought about winning titles, I always thought big. Today Flamengo provides me with that. It provides not only me with this possibility, but also for the players. So I am very grateful to Flamengo. Flamengo should not be grateful to me. The coach who sits in this chair here should be very grateful to Flamengo, because today Flamengo provides the coach with the possibility of fighting for titles”, said the coach.
He added: “Here the demand is limitless, but the joy is also equal. Since arriving at Flamengo, I have become very enlightened.”
The Flamengo coach also dedicated the title he won on Saturday to players who are no longer at the club, such as midfielder Gerson and full-back Wesley, and to those who were unable to play due to injury, such as striker Pedro – with whom Filipe Luis had a public feud midway through the year.
“Pedro is a very important player. This title is very dedicated to him for everything he has done for us and what he will continue to do,” said the coach in red and black.
He also took this moment to remember and honor the ten young players from Flamengo’s youth teams who died in a fire in Niñho do Ourobo, in 2019.
“It is no coincidence that Flamengo can shine after this tragedy, win so many titles, and achieve so much success. Of course there are many other things, but I believe in this strength,” the coach said.
“I feel like they are alive inside the club, inside me and I would like to send a hug to all the families.”
