The rerun of the TV series Rainha da Sucata, shown on TV Globo in the Vale a Pena Ver de Novo session, has a special character among its daily viewers: the actor Gerson Brenner. The star participated in the series, which was originally shown in 1990, but his career stopped after he was shot in the head during a robbery 27 years ago.
Today, aged 65, he lives with the consequences, but in the company of his wife, psychologist Marta Mendonça. The column spoke to Marta, who lived with the actor for 25 years. She gave details about the artist’s routine and said that he was happy to see himself on television.

In Rainha da Sucata, Gerson played Gerson’s character Giovanni, one of the “little daughters” of the famous Doña Arminia, played by Arasi Balabanian, who died in 2023. “He is very happy to watch the series,” Marta said.
The actor’s wife said: “One of his characteristics since before (the accident) was that when he liked someone or something, he would blow a kiss. Today he does the same thing: when he sees a scene he really likes, he blows a kiss to the TV.”
Marta and Gerson Brenner’s love story began when, as a psychiatrist, she began treating the actor. He commented, “Today, whoever lives with him can understand. But he has lost the ability to speak, and has difficulty communicating, but whoever lives with him can understand.”

Despite the difficulties, it confirms that the artist is a caring person. “Gerson is a very kind person, a very caring, loving person,” he said.
Marta mentioned in the column that Gerson Brenner continues to receive help from TV Globo. The broadcaster pays for the actor’s lifetime health plan. “We cannot say that Globo did not help at all because Globo maintains his lifelong medical insurance. But thank God, it is a very necessary agreement in his case. We have 24-hour home care, so there is always someone to help him,” he said.
Gerson Brenner was shot in the head while attempting a robbery. At the time, he was recording another successful TV series, Corbo Dorado. The tragedy occurred when he was returning from Sao Paulo to Rio to attend a recording. In addition to speech difficulties, he also suffers from movement problems.
