Flamengo players and their fans held a party in downtown Rio de Janeiro, Sunday (30), to celebrate their four Libertadores titles. But at the end of the party, confusion began and the police had to use bombs and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Amid the confusion, some fans responded by throwing stones.
Moreover, there is one fact that caught the attention of the fans, which was smoke coming out of the electric trio in which the red and black athletes were present. However, it was only a short problem, and was resolved quickly, without any fire breaking out. Another unusual sight was the appearance of the cup, which symbolizes conquest, broken. During the ceremony, it was possible to see the patch using duct tape.
The red and black road
The Rubro-Negro delegation disembarked in the capital, Rio de Janeiro, after a flight delay. After more than two hours of waiting, the fans were finally able to watch the players up close, ecstatic, over the electric trio, and lifting the Libertadores Cup.
Thus, after disembarking, the team headed to downtown Rio, where the title ceremony began at 1:10 p.m. The celebration of the fourth championship title began, after beating Palmeiras 1-0, on Primeiro de Marco Street.
Therefore, the route ended at President Antonio Carlos Street after a distance of about 850 metres. To accompany the red and black party, the city hall has drawn up a special plan to ensure security and organization.
Ecstasy takes over the streets
Police and municipal guards searched fans with a metal detector. Vendors and fans were not allowed to pass carrying bottles, fireworks, metal objects and portable chargers.
Amid the crowd, a fan appeared with a pig’s head in her hands, one of Palmeiras’ mascots. In this way, Filipe Luis’ men not only won eternal glory, but also achieved a kind of revenge for the 2021 runners-up.
Claim responsibility
Before the concert began, Public Order Minister Marcus Belchior announced that the red-and-black trio would only march when the fans had left the tents. After all, so many of them gathered in these structures, which led to the participation of Mayor Eduardo Paes.
“Dear Flamengo fans, get off the marquees and other structures that were not built to bear this weight. Celebrate responsibly! For your concern, thank you!”, posted the mayor of Rio de Janeiro.
