Fluminense defeats Osasco in a match marked by rain, honors and surprises

On a night of heavy rain and wind in Rio de Janeiro, causing the match to be halted for about 15 minutes at the start of the fourth set with water dripping onto the stands, Fluminense beat Osasco/São Cristóvão Saudí three sets to two, with splits of 24-26, 27-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9, this Friday (28/11). With this result, Tricolor is back in fifth place in the 2025/26 Women’s Volleyball Premier League with 14 points, four points behind Dentil/Praya Clube, the team that closed the G4, with one more match. Osasco remained in third place. See the full rating below.

Thiago Silva in the stands

Before the match, Central Les was honored for their 100th game played in the tri-colour jersey. With defender Thiago Silva in the gym, Fluminense suffered a heavy blow in the first set. They won 24-16, but then reeled off 10 straight points and pulled off an agonizing coup in front of their home crowd.

In the second half, the home team opened up four points again, and saw Osasco react again, but this time they had the peace of mind to close the set with minimal lead and tie the game. At the beginning of the fourth group, the match was stopped due to heavy rain that fell on Rio de Janeiro. Water ran down the stands and the field became wet and slippery.

Fluminense again had the advantage on the scoreboard with a score of 20 to 18, but took the turn and lost by a score of 25 to 21. In the tie-break, Flo were better at turning the ball over and finished the match with a score of 15 to 9 on the scoreboard. Ariane’s opposing team captured VivaVôlei, while Cugno was the top scorer.

Osasco returns to play the classic match against Gerdão Minas on Wednesday (12/4), at Estadio José Liberati, at 9pm. Fluminense hosts Sesc RJ Flamengo on December 9 at 9:30pm.
