In a recent interview, Gabriela Duarte He reconsidered the moment he decided to stop working in partnership with his mother, Regina Duarte.
The actress said that the search for professional independence was decisive in the separation that occurred years ago, and she explained in detail how the process was received by the public and her family.
Professional partnership with mother
During the conversation with María Ribeiro, for Canal Universa, Gabriela commented that it took her some time to realize how connected their image was. She stated that professional communication began early and intensified over time.
“There have always been (famous) duets. Somehow, it took me a while to realize (that we were one). I started over, but when I realized it was almost too late, because we were already so close and mixed up.”
The actress explained that the exhaustion came when she realized that continuing to act alongside would make the track repetitive. According to her, playing similar roles, often as mother and daughter, no longer seemed like a possible path.
“And I, with this (very strong) character, there was a time when the question of working together: doing everything together, the same character and playing mother and daughter (exhausted me). When I began to understand that we no longer had anywhere else to go that did not seem like something so forced, I said: ‘Enough.’
“People hate me”
But the decision was not well received at first. Gabriella notes that professional distancing sparked negative reactions and upset Regina.
He added: “But when I said that, people hated it, and they obviously hated it. My mother didn’t like it. For her, who followed her entire path, it was good and comfortable. I was there, and we shared an apartment in Rio (de Janeiro), not in São Paulo. I had my house there. For her it was good, and why would I change a good thing?”
Despite Regina’s warning of possible regret, the actress decided to stand by her choice.
“She said, ‘Maybe you’ll regret it.’ I said, ‘Okay, let me regret it. That’s life.’ But this public trip was cancelled.” Even with the initial impact, time brought balance, Gabriella concluded: “But we survived and everything is fine.”
