On Monday (24), Caixa Econômica Federal begins the distribution of the Gás do Povo program recharge voucher to about one million households in 10 Brazilian capitals. This initiative marks the transition of Auxílio Gás to a new model that guarantees free refilling of the 13 kg cylinder.
In this first phase, residents of El Salvador (BA), Fortaleza (CE), Goiania (GO), Belo Horizonte (MG), Belem (PA), Recife (PE), Teresina (PI), Natal (RN), Porto Alegre (RS) and São Paulo (SP) will benefit. It is expected that by March 2026, the program will reach 15.5 million households across the country, benefiting about 50 million people.
How the new model works
Unlike the previous format, which required cash payment, Gás do Povo offers free refills directly at authorized distributors. The beneficiary must go to one of the participating establishments and perform validation using Bolsa Família and Caixa cards, and can also present the CPF with a verification code sent to the registered cell phone.
Who has the right?
Households registered in the Unified Register whose monthly income is equivalent to or less than half of the minimum wage (currently R$ 759). With priority for those receiving Bolsa Família (where per capita income reaches R$ 218). It is essential that the registration is up to date for a maximum of 24 months since the last review.
What is the validity and quantity of cylinders?
Families of two or three people are entitled to four cylinders per year, with vouchers valid for three months for each. Families of four or more can collect six cylinders per year and the vouchers are valid for two months after distribution.
Interest is not cumulative. In other words, if the coupon is not used within the deadline, it will not carry over to the next cycle.
Learn how to locate approved resale sites:
Sellers joining Gás do Povo must follow specific rules for visual identity, which will be present on entrances, cylinders, vehicles and communication materials. Moreover, beneficiaries can review the approved points of sale closest to their homes directly through the program’s official application.
