Minister Gilmar Mendes of the Federal Supreme Court postponed, for at least 15 days, the trial in the case against the Governor of Acre, Gladson Camili (PP), which was to be held on Wednesday (19).
He is accused of embezzlement, corruption, money laundering and criminal organization.
The trial will take place in the special court of the Supreme Court of Justice, a body made up of 15 senior ministers.
In his decision, Gilmard ordered the Coaf (Council for the Control of Financial Activities) and the federal police to submit the forms used to obtain financial intelligence reports supporting the investigation against Camilli.
The governor’s defense told the Supreme Court that he requested the information, but it was not provided. They said the absence of data hampers the defense exercise.
In the decision containing the action against Camelli, Gilmard stated that the STF thesis requires that these reports be shared using official communication tools.
He said that the absence of these forms in criminal case files weakens the defense’s role in verifying the origin of the report request, its recipient, and its purpose.
The Minister decided to postpone the criminal case against Kamli with Syrians for Truth and Justice for at least 15 days or until the forms are added to the case file, which reopens the deadline for the parties to express their opinions on the documents.
When contacted by Camilli’s defense, he did not speak.
Camilli has been a defendant since last year. The Public Prosecutor’s Office accused him of receiving more than R$6 million in bribes.
Although the complaint was accepted, STJ denied removing the governor from his position. The rapporteur of the operation is Minister Nancy Andregue.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the alleged irregularities related to the governor caused losses estimated at R$ 11.7 million to the public treasury.
Records indicate that Murano Construções was fraudulently contracted, which allegedly received R$18 million to carry out road and construction works.
Technical analyzes indicated that there could have been an overpricing of R$8.8 million, as well as an overbilling of R$2.9 million for contracted services.
After he became an accused, Kamli said that he received STJ’s decision calmly. The governor said at the time: “It is important to point out that the court achieved justice by rejecting the request for removal from the mandate that the people of Acre granted me in a legitimate and democratic manner.”
“We realize that in this new procedural phase, the defense will have the peace of mind and space necessary to clarify doubts and restore the truth. The decision will give me the opportunity to defend myself in court.”
