For the first time this year, Sana Men’s fans left the jungle happy. If Atlético Tucuman’s victory over Godoy Cruz gave them the comfort of salvation, the performance in the victory over Velez put a smile on the faces of the people of Tripera, who were tired of fighting just for their survival.
Not only was it a good performance and a fair victory, it also had very good clips of play – especially in the first half – and important individual performances that helped add up to those three very valuable points. Marcelo Torres, Enzo Martinez, Bautista Merlini, among others, had good performances. Nicolas Barros Schelotto played his best matches since his debut, not least in front of the eyes of his father, the opposing coach who “suffered” from his son’s elegance in the Lobo half.
Without the weight of the battle to avoid relegation, Gimnasia was able to show at the start of the match an image similar to the one shown at Monumental in the decisive victory over River. With good pressure in the midfield, the local team recovered some balls, but the progress was not successful. On the other hand, Maher Carrizo shot a clear shot, but he caught the ball from below and it went wide of the goal. Velez found spaces and was able to disrupt Lobo based on the movement of his attacking men.
The Triberos responded with a good cross from Silva, which Torres finished in the air after a good arrival from Fernando Zanerato’s team. Immediately, Gimnasia had another good opportunity, from a deep ball scored by Bautista Merlini, but Manuel Panaro failed to score. Fortin responded with a shot from Aleandro that hit the crossbar.
El Lobo managed to play the match at their own pace, with great intensity in the midfield, which kept the visiting team from handling the ball. After two free throws from Nicolas Barros Schelotto did not pass, Manuel Panaro scored the first two shots, but Marchiore overthrew the goal screamer.
El Lobo found a good performance and showed a better performance than in the win over River
The goal came in the form of a wonderful goal by Lobo. It was good teamwork that led to Pintado’s pass from the right flank, Piedrahita sending the ball into the opposite area, and when it came, Marcelo Torres hit a barbaric shot that left Thomas Marchiori no chance of making history at 1 to 0.
A good cross from Nicolas Barros Schelotto gave the second chance to Renzo Giampaoli, who anticipated the header very well and blocked a brilliant shot from Marchiore. Gimnasia dominated the match as they not only undermined the skills of the visiting players, but also created situations in front of the opponents’ goal.
Marcelo Torres, Tribeiro’s great discovery of the term, was close behind in second place. He ran a long ball, moved Kyros with his body, and connected, so Thomas Marchiore beat him and kept the ball.
At the start of the match, Marcelo Torres once again worried Velez’s defence. Winner of the duel with Kyros, the ball was left behind and he was unable to finish the match well on another occasion. However, the visit recovered somewhat, and with some football they were able to get closer to the Nelson Insafran area.
Al-Mono facilitated a difficult ball by blocking a high shot from Pizzini, which the goalkeeper was able to clear. Fortin put pressure on Gimnasia, and there was a header from Aleandro and between Insafran and the post they said no to Velez’s equaliser.
Jeremias Merlo came in for Panaro and the first time he created a barbaric attack from the right side that no one could connect to the goal, but it brought anxiety to the visiting area in the midst of searching for an equaliser.
Velez were so good that Gimnasia scored against them. He recovered the ball in the middle of the field, led by Piedrahita, who stood firm despite the violation, opened the way for Jeremias Merlo and the kid advanced, rounded the goalkeeper and finished the match without problems to make the score 2-0.
With the second goal, Lobo almost ended the match. The third goal could have come, because Hurtado did so with a wonderful header, but in an advanced position. In stoppage time, Lucas Castro’s shot from the penalty area gate collided with Silverio and almost entered the goal, but Marchiore succeeded in turning it into the corner. There was no time for more, only for the people who left the forest happy.
Break the line
With its victory yesterday over Velez, at the Juan Carmelo Zerillo Stadium, Gimnasia was able to break a streak of three consecutive defeats, as it produced an outstanding performance in the Bosque area. Lobo had just lost to Talleres (1-2), Central (0-3) and Ionion (1-3).
