One of the many road accidents that usually occur on the streets of Buenos Aires has ended in a truly tragic situation, so to speak.
A car driven by a drunk man, with his left leg in a cast and without insurance, made a bad maneuver and hit three others who were parked at the intersection of Cabrera and Godoy Cruz. But in addition, as if that wasn’t enough of the astonishing situation that occurred at that intersection, the driver was holed up in his car for more than two hours waiting to take a breathalyzer test. In this sense, the test result was overwhelming: 1.5 grams per liter of blood alcohol, three times what is permitted for a special license holder.
Although there was initially speculation that a drug test would be conducted by order of the intervening public prosecutor’s office, this did not happen, police sources revealed to PERFIL.
Authoritarians don’t like this
The practice of professional and critical journalism is an essential pillar of democracy. This is why it bothers those who believe they are the bearers of the truth.
According to the information obtained by this newspaper, the accident occurred around seven o’clock yesterday, and the procedure was not completed until more than two hours had passed since the strong collision that led to the destruction of the back of one of the parked cars.
Wicked and wait. Upon a call to 911, personnel from the city police’s Neighborhood Police Station 14A were able to verify that the driver of the Ford Fiesta, who had a boot cast on his left leg, admitted that he had made a bad maneuver due to which he ended up colliding with a Renault Sandero, a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Civic.
SAME treated the 42-year-old driver at the scene for minor bruises and then remained inside the vehicle waiting to be subjected to a breathalyzer test ordered by the Northern Offenses Unit.
The alcohol test was carried out by competent personnel, and the result was positive for 1.5 g/l, three times the 0.5 g/l, which is the limit for a private driver.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in charge of Jorge Palacios decided to present a ticket for driving with a greater amount of alcohol in the blood and no car insurance.
He also ordered the vehicle to be transported to the police station, using a tow truck, which freed up traffic in the area.
The driver was removed from the scene in a city police vehicle and taken to District 14A police station for drug testing, which was also ordered by the prosecutor’s office, but ultimately not carried out.
In addition, now without a license. Meanwhile, the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV), acting ex officio, requested the withdrawal of the driving license of the man who collided with three vehicles in the neighborhood of Palermo, Capa, because he was drunk and one of his legs was in a cast.
After hearing of the case, and after confirming a positive blood alcohol level, ANSV initiated administrative procedures to have the 42-year-old driver suspended from duty by the judicial authority that issued his licence.
As happens in these cases, the driver must be notified of the penalty, and in order to become eligible again, he will have to perform and pass psychophysical tests that confirm his eligibility behind the wheel.
