He was arrested for cruelty to animals in La Plata and eight dogs in cruel conditions

A horrific police operation carried out by the police in the town of La Plata, Los Hornos, allowed the rescue of eight dogs that were in an alarming state of health, and ended with the arrest of two people accused of abusing the animals and acts of cruelty to them. The intervention came within the framework of an investigation promoted by UFI No. 17, led by Public Prosecutor Eugenia Di Lorenzo, who specializes in crimes of this type.

The procedure took place on October 29, 2025 in a house located in area 164 bis between 62 and 63. Police arrived there after a series of complaints from neighborhood residents, who warned that a local couple was subjecting an adult greyhound to repeated situations of violence, abandonment and exploitation for commercial purposes. According to testimonies, the animal had recently given birth, and she and her seven cubs remained completely unprotected.

Alerts intensified when protection advocates displayed photographs that showed the seriousness of the condition, prompting the Public Prosecutor’s Office to urgently order a search of the house. With appropriate judicial authorization, members of the Third Police Station entered the indicated address and found a scene confirming the initial complaint.

Inside the home, seven Saluki puppies (three females and four males) and an adult dog of the same breed were found, all in an apparent state of abandonment. According to police sources, the animals showed a general pattern of malnutrition, lack of hygiene, complete absence of veterinary care, and noticeable physical deterioration.
The adult greyhound, in particular, had visible injuries, wounds and signs consistent with internal bleeding, which coincided with birth that had occurred about three weeks earlier. The animal’s condition clearly reflects prolonged suffering.

Given the seriousness of the situation, officers immediately arrested those responsible for the house:

Maria Soledad La Porta (35 years old)

Jorge Agustín Arreola (24 years old)

Both were accused of violating Law No. 14346, which punishes mistreatment and cruelty to animals, a crime for which they could face prison time.

In parallel, the eight dogs were rescued and transferred to different temporary homes run by protection organizations. Veterinarians who intervened at the scene of the accident conducted the first treatments and clinical evaluations, and warned that the general condition of the animals was “delicate,” so they would need continuous controls, nutritional assistance, and specialized medical treatment.

The case has sparked great discontent among neighbors and activists in the area, who hope that the case will quickly advance to justice and that the animals will be able to recover after living in a context of extreme vulnerability.
