The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) warned that a new intense cold front, associated with the formation of an extratropical cyclone, is expected to reach Rio Grande Sul in the early hours of Sunday and advance rapidly towards the central-western and southeastern states, causing heavy rains, high frequency of thunderstorms, hail and wind gusts that may exceed 100 km/h.
Due to the forecast conditions, a high risk warning (red) has been issued for the regions of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, which begins at 9am on Sunday and lasts until 3am on Monday. The orange storm watch also covers parts of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Mato Grosso and lasts until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
“Other extreme phenomena, of a more local scale, such as hurricanes and tremors, are not excluded in the areas south and west of Rio Grande do Sul, west of Paraná and Santa Catarina and south of Mato Grosso do Sul,” Enmet adds in a note.
According to meteorologist Andrea Ramos, in the Southeast, heat is returning with a vengeance, and the expected rain is caused more by the combination of heat and humidity than by a cold front:
– In São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and southeast Minas, precipitation will be more thermodynamically related. Spring heat and humidity help cloud formation, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Thundershowers are also expected, especially in the afternoon, in Rondônia, Acre and Amazonas, with the risk of thunderstorms, wind gusts and even isolated hail in some places. In the northeast, most capitals still have little cloud cover, except for Salvador, where the weather is becoming unstable again.
The meteorologist confirms that several capitals may witness rain during the Enem application period on Sunday:
– There is a tendency for rainfall during this period in Porto Alegre, Florianópolis, Curitiba, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, and Campo Grande, as well as in the capitals of the northern region, such as Manaus, Rio Branco, Porto Velho, and Boa Vista. In the northeast, only El Salvador has a greater chance of instability during the afternoon.
