According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, in a statement to Newsweek, Peter Riera, 44, started the disturbance by claiming to be a farmer and questioning the birds’ ability to lay eggs. “I can confirm that the argument between the three victims and Mr. Riera stemmed from a conversation about how many eggs a hen could lay,” Public Information Officer Sergeant Dominic Mesetti said.

Shots and confusion in front of the bar
Riera is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated assault without intent to kill, four counts of public discharge and use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. According to police, he fired four shots with a .45-caliber Glock handgun outside the bar, which was closed at the time.
Sergeant Mesiti reported that Riera was in a state of disarray after the fight, accusing the victims of trying to deceive. “One of the victims ran into the street trying to escape from the shooter. The other two hid. We received several phone calls; the same shooter called 911,” he told local radio station WPBF.
Police said the victims knew Riera and had met him on the same night, and had consumed alcoholic beverages with varying levels of intoxication. During the incident, two people were also arrested: Brandon Pace, 24, for resisting arrest with violence, and Kayla Damiani, 26, for obstructing an investigation as officers attempted to arrest Pace.
Misiti confirmed to WPBF that carrying a weapon while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is extremely dangerous. “There will never be a good outcome from this,” he added. Video clips of Riera’s arrest are circulating on social media, recording the moment of his arrest.
