The Attorney General of the Federation, Jorge Messias, continues to be ignored by the President of the Senate, Davi Alcolombre (União-AP). The judge, chosen by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to fill a vacancy on the Federal Supreme Court (STF), on Wednesday (26/11) began the traditional “kissing of hands” among senators to express support for his confirmation.
When asked, Messias said he was trying to meet with the Senate president, and that it should happen “at the right time.” This Wednesday he visited the offices of Senators Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), Sergio Beticao (PSD-AC) and Elysian Gama (PSD-MA).

Little time to express
Alcolombre announced that a hearing in the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) to analyze Messias’ nomination to the court will be held on December 10. Voting must take place in plenary session on the same day.
Government officials fear that the vote will be scheduled too quickly and will not give the AU enough time to gain support among senators.
However, the government’s leader in the Senate, Jacques Wagner (PT-BA), stated that it would be better to “resolve” the analysis this year. “It would be better to solve it now. The problem is that he needs to make contacts with the leaders and the benches,” he said.
