
The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) will allow the return of undeserved deductions made on benefits for pensioners and pensioners who have already died. The heirs of INSS victims will be able to request a refund starting Wednesday (11/19).
According to the federal government, the list of retirees and pensioners who received unjustified deductions from the authorities, which was implemented between March 2020 and 2025, includes about 800,000 people who have already died. About R$700 million were unjustifiably deducted from the benefits of those people who died before the money was recovered.
The amounts received will be divided among all heirs.

How can I request a return of unearned discounts?
Pensioners (benefits for deceased persons who received a death pension)
- The death pension holder can apply for a refund through Meu INSS, Central 135, PrevBarco or at the post office.
- The amount will be divided among all retirees.
Heirs (benefits for deceased people who did not receive a death pension)
In order to recover the requested amounts, the status of the heir must be recognized by INSS. To do this, in My INSS, go to “View deductions from joint entities”, select the option “View deductions – benefit of a deceased person – to successor or heir” and go to “Analysis of order”.
It will be necessary to attach documents proving the status of the successor/heir. Document verification:
- A public instrument or judicial declaration, containing express authorization to contest payment on behalf of successors.
- Identity document and proof of address of the applicant.
If the heir status is recognised, it is now possible to request the return of undeserved deductions through Meu INSS, Central 135, Correios or PrevBarco.
How to request a refund through My INSS:
- Go to “Consultation Requests”, locate the request “Successor/Heir Registration – Deductions from Syndicated Entities” and then go to the “Consult Deductions from Syndicated Entities” button.
- Check discounts and check whether they are authorized or not.
- Fill in all the details and then choose “Submit Declaration”.
