In one of the few self-portraits he left behind, the French painter and illustrator Jean-Baptiste Debray (1768-1848) is shown on a street in Rio de Janeiro, sitting on the sidewalk, observing what is happening. This social dimension of his works is the guiding thread of the exhibition “Debret in question – Olhares Contemporâneos”, scheduled to be on display until May 17, 2026 at the Ipiranga Museum, in São Paulo.
