On Saturday, the Iranian government expressed its rejection of US President Donald Trump’s announcement of the closure of Venezuelan airspace.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei criticized the “provocative and illegal actions against the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela,” in particular the closure of airspace “which contravenes the norms and laws of international law,” the “arbitrary measure” and the “unprecedented threat” to international aviation security.
Al-Bikai warned of the “dangerous consequences” of this measure on international law and international peace and security, according to what was reported by the official Iranian news agency, “IRNA.”
Trump announced that the airspace “over and around” Venezuela had been completely “closed” in another step toward a possible ground invasion of the country in the same week that the North American president clearly spoke of his intention to enter Venezuelan territory to begin arresting drug traffickers, especially taking into account the accumulation of his military personnel around the region.
The US President announced on his platform, “Truth Social,” “To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers: We ask you to take into account that the airspace over Venezuela and its surrounding areas will remain completely closed.”
