The close vote result that confirmed the reappointment of the Prosecutor General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, on Wednesday (12), reinforced the rhetoric of the wing of the Federal Senate, and in particular the allies of Davi Alcolombre (Uniao Brasil-AP), about the risks of rejecting the Prosecutor General of the Federation, Jorge Messias, if Lula nominates him to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

Jeunet received an additional two years in office in the closest vote for the position of Attorney General of the Republic since the restoration of democracy – there were 45 votes in favor (only four more than those required by the Constitution) and 26 votes against. The result was lower than the expectations of Jounieh’s candidacy rapporteur, Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), with a majority of 48 votes in favor and 52 votes in favour.
Among the Colombri’s allies, the reading suggests that the Jounieh result is a message from the House of Representatives about the difficult path Messias will take to secure approval, at a time when the Planalto Palace is struggling to implement its agenda in Congress.

“Christ has already left with 26 votes to that of Jounieh. Moreover, he will be rejected by more senators, since the feeling in the chamber is that the vacancy should go to Pacheco (Rodrigo Pacheco, former president of the Senate),” said an interlocutor from Alcolombre heard exclusively by the blog.
Alcolombre’s interlocutors, consulted by the article team, estimate that the senators were “shocked” by the last minister appointed by Lula, Flavio Dino, rapporteur of the investigations of the STF that closed the siege against the secret budget and successive irregularities in the implementation of parliamentary amendments.

“This is not really a rejection of Mesías, but a preference for Pacheco,” summed up one senator from the base of the lolist. This parliamentarian believes that the “additional vacancy” that began with the early retirement of Luis Roberto Barroso should go to Pacheco, out of respect for the House of Representatives, which would create fewer problems for Lula’s government than for the House of Representatives.
About the Federation’s Attorney General, the assessment is that the Jounieh vote revealed Alcolombre’s strategy to try to put Pacheco in office.

After Jeunet’s close vote, President Lula’s allies tried to downplay the impact of the prosecutor’s outcome on the potential nomination of Mesías.
“There is no connection between one thing and another,” one of Lula’s interlocutors, who is well-versed in the world of law, told the blog. “The Jounieh vote is a kind of revenge for the Bolsonarians, who are angry at the actions of the prosecutor in the fight against the coup plotters in the January 8 investigations.”
In fact, Jeunet was responsible for filing the complaint that led to former President Jair Bolsonaro being sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for organizing a coup to stay in power.
Bolsonian shock troops, on the other hand, view Messias as an “ideological cadre of the Workers’ Party” and a man whom Lula trusts. He starred in one of Lava Jato’s most famous moments, as then-President Dilma Rousseff called him “Pisias” in a conversation with Lula, who had just taken over as Civic House Minister.

Lula’s appointment was Dilma’s last-ditch attempt to save her government from the threat of impeachment and rebuild its allied base, but the release of the audio recording by then-federal judge Sergio Moro prompted Minister Gilmar Méndez, of the STF, to block the appointment of the Workers’ Party member.
The Bolsonian shock troops now intend to revisit this incident to punish Mesías, if he is indeed nominated.
