The podcast Un tema Al día, directed by Juanlo Sánchez, won an award Dog award For Best Overall Content at the 18th CLABE Awards for Journalism and Communication.
The jury highlights the “close, narrative, original but also rigorous style” that “transformed Juanlo Sánchez into an informative voice and a daily reference that generates its own community.”
Topic of the Day is a daily podcast that explains a relevant news or story in chapters that are approximately fifteen minutes long. It is the leader in its format in Spain and has already reached more than 165,000 subscriptions on audio platforms and over 1 million monthly listeners.
The CLABE Awards jury also “honored Juanlo Sánchez for his nearly 20-year innovative career in digital journalism, in which he knew how to unite his beginnings in radio with the digital world.” Since his early years as a journalist, Juanlo Sánchez has experimented with digital formats, first as a reporter, then with the founding of projects such as Periodismo Humano in 2009 and since 2012 as co-founder and deputy director of elDiario.es, an innovative medium in editorial and also in a sustainability model based on communication with readers.
Within this strategy to bring media to new audiences, “Un tema al día” is also a collective voice that shows in a different way the work and sensitivity of the entire editorial team at elDiario.es. The team that prepares this podcast each day also includes Carmen Ibáñez, Marcos García Santonja, Pedro Nogales, and Isascon Pérez.
The Club of Open Editors (CLABE), which awards these awards, is the largest association of press, magazines and periodicals in Spain in terms of the number of editorial groups and titles represented.
