A Madrid court condemned the PSOE for violating the right of association through the precautionary suspension of the activist work of former Madrid president Joaquín Liguena while it was processing the file of expulsion from the party for his support in the elections of Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The court partially upheld the appeal filed by the former socialist leader, considering that the precautionary measure was more than reasonable, according to what Cadena Ser reported.
Justice considers that Leguena has been in “legal limbo” for 32 months after the leadership of Pedro Sánchez decided on May 6, 2021 to initiate expulsion proceedings for the former Socialist leader for his support in the Madrid elections for the candidate of the People’s Party. What the judges criticize is the time during which the precautionary suspension was in effect until the file was processed.
“The delay is clear, as nothing had been resolved when the case was filed in February 2024, so that by then just over 14 months had passed, although since the date of opening the file on May 6, 2021, the delay had reached 32 months,” said the ruling approved by the SER. What he rejects is a compensation request of 12 thousand euros to the then secretary of the organization, Santos Cerdán, and Marta Lopez for making this decision.
Sources from the leadership of the Socialist Workers’ Party state that justice ruled in their favor in the first place. These sources say: “Now we will adhere to the ruling and the party will analyze how to adapt the regulations if that is appropriate,” expressing their surprise at the appeal of “a person who has no problem accepting a position from Ayuso,” referring to the presidency of the Regional Accounts Chamber, where he was promoted by the Popular Party with a salary of 100 thousand euros annually.
