At least two people were killed and more than 20 others were injured, including a 13-year-old boy, as a result of a major Russian air strike last night on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, which left several fires in residential buildings and half a million of its residents without electricity.

The latest balance was provided by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sepha, who spoke of a “difficult night” across the country, the target of a massive new air attack by Russia, which included “dozens of ballistic missiles and cruise missiles”, as well as more than 500 drones.

The head of the military administration in Kiev, Timur Tkachenko, said on his account on the Telegram application, “Emergency rescue operations and eliminating the consequences of the enemy attack are continuing in all places.” “The joint attack on the capital continues. Do not leave the shelters until the alarm sounds!” He added.

Alarm sirens began sounding in the early hours of the morning when several missiles fell on residential areas in Kiev, and the Ukrainian authorities urged residents to stay in safe places and not go out into the streets.

In the Svyatoshinsky district, a man was injured in the Russian attack and died. Several buildings in the area were damaged by missiles and drones, leading to fires, the destruction of facades, and the collapse of rubble in transit areas.

At least eight of those injured were taken to hospital, including a 13-year-old boy and a woman in serious condition, while the rest were treated by emergency services at the scene. “According to the Air Force, there are hostile cruise missiles in the country’s airspace. In addition, a MiG-31K aircraft was recorded taking off with a Kinzhal ballistic missile. The threat of hostile drones also remains in Kiev,” Tkachenko confirmed.

In its first assessment of the attack, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry warned of severe damage to supplies. The ministry said in a statement posted on its Telegram account: “As a result of the attack, more than half a million consumers remained without electricity in Kiev, and another 100,000 must be added to them in the entire region and 8,000 more in the Kharkiv region.”

The ministry added, “Emergency restoration work is already underway wherever the security situation allows. Energy sector workers are doing everything in their power to restore power supply to all users as soon as possible.”

This new Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital came shortly after the resignation of the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, the right-hand man of the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, after a series of searches at his home by anti-corruption agencies in the context of the crisis in Kiev due to a large-scale corruption investigation.

Ssibha devoted part of his letter to criticizing the Prime Minister of Hungary and Putin’s ally, Viktor Orban, whom he accused of acting as a puppet of Russia because Moscow uses his visits as a diplomatic pretext while continuing to attack Ukraine.

“It is also noteworthy how Putin once again used Viktor Orban as an accomplice in his terrorism. In 2024, Orban’s visit to Moscow was followed by a horrific Russian attack on the Ukhmatdet children’s hospital in Ukraine. This time, a massive Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital immediately after Orban’s visit and empty words about ‘peace’. Putin is simply using these politicians as actors in his bloody show,” the minister said.

Two people were injured in Russia

In the Volgograd region (Russia), two people were injured as a result of an attack by a Ukrainian army drone, which also caused damage to a building products warehouse and several residential buildings. None of the injured required hospital care, according to what the governor of the Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov, said on his Telegram channel.

In contrast, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the destruction of 108 Ukrainian drones tonight, most of them in the regions of Belgorod (26), Rostov (20), and Crimea (19).

The rest of the unmanned military devices were intercepted in Ryazan (11), Krasnodar (11), Voronezh (5), Lipetsk (4), Volgograd (6), and Kursk (3). As for Astrakhan, Kalmykia, and the Sea of Azov, Russian forces shot down one plane in each region.
