On a perfect weekend, McLaren’s Lando Norris won the Formula 1 Grand Prix of São Paulo, held on Sunday (9) at the Autodromo de Interlagos. He had already won the sprint race and was in first place after Saturday’s qualifying session. With this victory, the Englishman reached 380 points and increased his superiority over his colleague, who is in second place overall, Oscar Piastri, with 366 points. Before the Brazilian Grand Prix, the difference between them was nine points.
-The team did a great job giving me a great car. We try hard every weekend, and also off the track. It’s rewarding and fulfilling. It certainly doesn’t come easy, says the Interlagos winner.
Second place in São Paulo went to Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), who managed to fend off attacks from Max Verstappen (RBR), third, after a brilliant recovery. Fourth place went to George Russell (Mercedes) and fifth to Piastri.
After the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, which recorded a record crowd of 303,627 people over the three days – a record -, the 2025 Formula 1 season will have a total of 78 points, with three stages remaining: Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Bortoletto crashes on the first lap
After starting out of the pits following an accident in Saturday’s sprint race, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoletto saw his home race dream come to an end with just one lap. Right at the start of the Grand Prix, Brazilian Lance Stroll, from the Aston Martin team, collided with the wall and retired from the race. The rookie complained over the radio about the way the Canadian touched his car.
– Stroll kicked me out, and turned around as if I wasn’t there – Bortoletto told Sauber.
Earlier, the Brazilian pilot stated that he had recovered well from the accident he suffered the previous day. On the last lap of the race, while trying to overtake, he hit the wall and ended up on the other side of the track.
– Thank you for the messages and concerns after yesterday’s raid. It was a really big fear, but thank God I came out of the accident unscathed. “I tried to overtake, the first attempt was successful and I thought I should try again, because I was feeling confident – said Gabriel, Sunday morning, at Interlagos, before the main race.
The other who did not complete the Sao Paulo Grand Prix was Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who was involved in another connection – with Franco Colapinto, from the start.
Verstapen starts from the pits
Dutchman Max Verstappen, of the RBR Team, who qualified 16th on the starting grid for the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, left the pits today, Sunday, after making modifications to his car.
Unsatisfied with the car’s performance, particularly due to the lack of grip on Saturday, the four-time world champion, who is not yet out of title contention, opted to change several parts in an attempt to recover.
The strategy worked and he finished the race in third place.
Hours before the race, upon his arrival at Interlagos, British driver Lewis Hamilton, who wore a helmet with Brazilian colors in the race, referred to the country in a new way. With the flag printed on his jacket, the Ferrari driver walked with another flag hanging around his waist. The Brazilian was not the only one to arrive for this afternoon’s race.
Hamilton’s compatriot, 20-year-old Ollie Biermann, wore the Brazilian team’s shirt. Haas, the team he races for, joined in the fun, dubbing the driver Perconaldo – inspired by Ronaldo -, while his French teammate Esteban Ocon was nicknamed Oconzinho.
Mercedes, on the other hand, had its main drivers – Kimi Antonelli and George Russell – and reserve Valtteri Bottas, to announce “it’s race day”, speaking in Portuguese, in a video posted in the morning.
