This students work hard. No one knows how the story will end, but what is written will last a lifetime. Many times he was on everyone’s lips and played a brilliant, challenging and complex game. They defeated Central Cordoba Santiago del Estero 1-0 as a visitor and became the first to reach the semi-finals. And wait, read carefully, for Gimnasia or Paracas. He walked into a party he wasn’t invited to and now he’s getting all the attention.
He won because he had courage and intelligence. He knew how to endure when things didn’t go the best way. He knew how to wait for this moment. He was loyal to his principles. As he described it, he reached the goal 25 minutes before the end of the match to achieve another epic victory, leaving him in the “gallery” of the best. The ending of the story can be unforgettable or a bitter pill to swallow. But at worst, he actually achieved it, wrote a new chapter in his story and did not fail at all in what his fans wanted. Estudiantes again reached the semi-finals.
The start of the match was normal, if not very bad. Neither team wanted to take on the role of protagonist and lend each other the ball and their shortcomings. No one won despite leaving weapons on the table: Cordoba’s midfield with forward play and Pencha with possession of the ball but slowness in attack.
It is true that the extreme heat played its role. It was impossible to put pressure on him and keep him going for 90 minutes, with chances to extend. You can’t breathe in the Mother of Cities with the heat reaching almost 40 degrees. At 10pm he had to stop to hydrate.
In this sharing game, Estudiantes had two clear scoring chances. The first from Ascasibar, who almost found a second ball after a corner kick, then the Colombian Sitri from the left to the center with a powerful shot from the outside that was blocked by Aguirre in the corner. On that corner kick, Pincha was blocked poorly and Perillo started a very dangerous counterattack. Game postcards didn’t start but showed little paths to each game. The problem was knowing who would get one of the few chances they would get right.
In the second half, the team began to calm down more. The corrosion revealed the first cracks in the Pincha defence, which until that point had been crack-free and extremely solid. Gomez had a separate matchup with Perillo, where he had more wins than losses but was somewhat contained offensively. On the left Arzamendia never leaves her. The only chance was Sitri’s off-balance, Palacios’ or Medina’s slow pass. Even though they were starting to arrive, he also showed that he was bending down to strike.
The tie was broken in the 20th minute by a brilliant Thiago Palacios goal that appeared at the far post unmarked and sent the overflow, the middle and an assist from Edwin Sitri into the back of the net, the most dysfunctional player in attack, which is returning to its best version in a special period of the tournament. Rosario’s key and crucial one last night for the goal that opened the match. A separate paragraph for Cristian Medina, who recovered and gave the right pass to the Colombian for the run and the centre. What’s different is this team.
Central Cordoba did their best to equalize. Nothing was saved and in 10 minutes he produced more than he had in the rest of the match with blocked balls, shots from outside the area and runs down the flanks. They did everything and showed why they are one of the best teams of the year, both locally and internationally.
Once again, Dominguez opted for the substitute to play the final 20 minutes. In Rosario it did not give him many results because it coincided with the opponent’s best moments. The same thing happened here because without Farias, Palacio or Sitri they lost any chance of off balance with the recovered ball. As in Rosario, he formed a five-man line with Gaston Benedetti as the main marker and Arzamendia as the centre-back. This alternative has helped. Rodriguez then entered for Paraguay.
The finish was hot and the fight was on par. The local team burned down their warehouses and made Estudiantes sweat even more. Even though he was growing up, he was never sure of controlling the game. Until the end of the addition process, no one dared to bet on the winner. Nothing has been resolved. But the team had so much self-respect, so much security and so much composure that at that stage of the match there had to have been either a very egregious error or an enormous virtue on the part of the home team to break a 1-0 tie, which ran deep in the hearts of all the pundits, who had had a week of rebelliousness and pride as in the best of times. Estudiantes was on everyone’s lips again and played as the situation indicated. He won and won to reach the semi-finals of the final tournament. Sir, the students have arrived, make an entrance.
