Manos Cleans’ lawyer resigns in the Begonia Gomez case and accuses the association of “political activity”

The false Manos Cleans union was left without representation in the case being investigated by Judge Juan Carlos Peñado against Begonia Gomez. Lawyer Carlos Perales Rey, who was defending the interests of the extremist organization in this action, tendered his resignation in a letter denouncing that “the legal profession cannot be confused with political activity or public communication strategy.” This was stated in a brofax sent by the lawyer to the false union on September 25 and attached to his resignation letter dated November 24.

In the document sent to the court, the lawyer presents evidence from the post office proving that the birofax was not collected by Manos Medicas and insists on his request that “the joint waiver of procedural representation and legal defense be deemed to have been drawn up,” as well as his “repudiation thereof.”

Lawyer Carlos Perales says in Perfax that what began as “a legal assignment of a purely technical nature” has turned “into a matter whose presentation and treatment goes beyond the legal framework that should fall within the field of political and media controversy.” Thus, he explains that in the course of events it was possible to observe how “strategic decisions” were “no longer inspired by procedural logic or the solidity of legal arguments, but responded, to a greater extent, to considerations of political opportunity, influence on public opinion or ideological position.”

“The legal profession cannot be confused with political activism or public communication strategy. A lawyer must act as a legal operator, not as a political agent or media spokesman. Maintaining legal direction in a scenario in which times and messages are designed more in terms of public impact than procedural effectiveness, will mean that this office breaks with its supposed professional mandate and dilutes the fundamental boundaries between the technical defense of the law and the political exploitation of the process.” com. burofax.

In April 2024, the pseudo-union led by Miguel Bernad since the mid-1990s filed a complaint against the wife of the head of government based on eight stories published in various media, one of which was a hoax published by The Objective about the lack of support for Begonia Gómez.

Since then, Judge Peinado has led a major case that has put all her professional activity under suspicion since her husband became head of government, spread throughout a court case already approaching 20 summary volumes and progressing between corrections and pleas from the Regional Court of Madrid.

The organization led by Bernad has a long history of denouncing politicians and progressive organizations over the past five years. There are cases brought by the Supreme Court against Podemos for its financing, against Irene Montero and Alberto Garzón for their public statements, or more recently against Pedro Sánchez himself for negotiating an amnesty with Gontz. The Supreme Court overturned the four-year prison sentence imposed on the leader of the pseudo-syndicate for extortion which, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, he committed against banks and companies through Usbank, of which he was finally acquitted. Clean Hands recently prosecuted the case against the recently resigned state attorney general.
