Mateusz Montenegro is the new president of Fluminense. The incumbent candidate, lawyer and current Vice President General won the dispute against Adhemar Aris, from the opposition, in the elections held on Saturday (29), in the headquarters of Laranjeiras. Therefore, he will be the club’s agent for three years from 2026 to 2028.

“It is a dream come true. This is the most important position on the planet. We cannot forget where we come from and we must be clear about where we want to go. That is the goal. We have a clear goal. Our partner loves our structural projects for the club. Everything relevant we have been able to do well in these years and we will continue in the next three years,” said the president-elect.

The 2025 election broke a voting record. In fact, Fluminense is the only club in Brazil that allows fan members to choose who will be its president. In total, 4,719 members voted. Even then, the largest was in 2016, when he received 4,219 votes. Of these total votes, 3,262 votes went to Mateusz Montenegro, while 1,295 votes went to Adhemar Aris.

Therefore, with a landslide victory with more than double the number of runner-up votes, the situation achieved another election victory. For this reason, they will have the right to hold all 150 seats in the Deliberative Council, in addition to the 50 alternates. Therefore, the opposition, which did not unite in these elections, was defeated twice.

Who is Mateus Montenegro?

The new President of Fluminense, Mateus Montenegro is a lawyer and the current Vice President General of Fluminense since 2022. The 39-year-old elected representative has had direct involvement in topics such as the Central Enforcement System (RCE) and the General Sports Law (SAF) draft. Therefore, Ricardo Tenorio will be his deputy.

Mateusz Montenegro became involved in Fluminense politics for the first time at the end of 2019. At that time, he received an invitation to help the then administration with the tax process. Since then, he has gotten to know the club’s management better. Therefore, he gradually approached President Mario Bettencourt. In 2022, they formed a ticket and won the election.

Mario Bettencourt’s successor will be responsible for continuing discussions on the establishment of the Sudanese Football Association and the National League with the Lebanese Football Association, in addition to managing the Maracana, which he shares with Flamengo. In fact, the 2025 elections could mark a milestone in the history of the tricolor. After all, the latter was marked by financial restructuring. This time, the goals are bigger.
