National President of the Malaysian Development Bank, Federal Rep. Palia Rossi (MDB-SP) on Monday (10/11) defended the “possibility” of São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) being a candidate for the government of São Paulo, if Governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) runs for president.
As it turns out CapitalsMayor Nunes’s allies noticed an excitement after Tarcisio advanced in the dispute in favor of Palacio do Planalto. This mood also coincides with the recent tribute paid to Nunes by the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (ALESP), with some calling the city mayor Tarcisio’s successor. The mayor denies that he has this intention.
Now, a speech by Palea Rossi, a first-time ally of Nunes, shows that although the mayor is not speaking publicly about his intention to run for Palacio dos Bandeirantes, the environment is trending toward such a candidacy.
“Of course, there is a possibility that Ricardo will be invited to be a candidate for governor of São Paulo because it is possible that Tarcisio will be chosen as a presidential candidate,” Palia Rossi said in an interview with Jovem Pan.
The MP pointed out that Nunes’ nomination depends on political alliances. He pointed to the Deputy Governor, Felicio Ramuth (PSD), who will take over the government of São Paulo, if Tarcisio runs for planalto.
There is a vice in the middle of the road
“This is also a decision that will depend on political alliances. We will have Felicio Ramuth, the deputy governor, who will take over the government of São Paulo, in case the governor resigns. Therefore, we still have so many issues to face, that it is difficult for you to predict the future,” Rossi added.
Ramuth has begun talks to evaluate the possibility of running for state government in 2026. He has already spoken to most of the leaders of centre-right parties, a group that includes Palia Rossi. Moreover, in recent public events, the governor has been careful to praise the Vice President, always linking him to the hypothesis that Ramuth put an end to the backwaters of São Paulo.
In his speech yesterday, the national president of the Multilateral Development Bank said Nunes is “qualified to run for any office” because he is the mayor of the largest city in Latin America. Balia also says that “it would be an honor for the MDB” to have a candidate for the São Paulo government. He also praises Nunes because he will be a “numbers whiz,” “enthusiastic” for the City Council and, according to a bet by the Malaysian Development Bank president, Nunes will have “one of the greatest political growths I’ve ever seen in my public life in this last election.”
