The CNT Journalism Award, in its 32nd edition, is one of the most important and most traditional awards in Brazilian journalism. The award, organized by the National Confederation of Transport (CNT), highlights reports that focus on the importance of the transport sector and its workers in the economic, social, political and cultural spheres in Brazil.
The winning images were taken by photographer Brenno Esaki for the report “Brazil That Collapses,” written by Jade Abreu. The organizers of the award confirmed that this is the second time that a series of photographs deserved to win the main category in the competition, in 32 editions. The journalistic investigation begins from the consequences of the collapse of the Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge between Maranhão and Tocantins to report that this is not an isolated problem in the country. Breno Esaki and Jade Abreu traveled 9,057.8 kilometers and were in four states – Amazonas, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Sul, and Tocantins – to document the social, environmental and economic impacts of bridge collapses.
Best multi-platform report
The report, titled “Mete Marcha: Gamification puts iFood couriers at risk,” which won the cross-platform category, was written by William Cardoso. The material reveals the gamification system on the iFood delivery platform and the risks it brings to motorcyclists. The investigation shows how iFood connects motorcyclists through rewards and challenges, condensing tasks on days of bad weather, heavy traffic and on more remote and less safe roads.
The special Mete Marcha was designed by Lilian Tahan, Olivia Meireles, Otto Valle, Márcia Delgado and Fabio Leite, who also took care of editing the text. The special was coordinated by Erica Montenegro. The graphic project was created by Gui Prímola and Carla Sena, who are also responsible for the illustrations. Animation by Leonardo Hladchuk.

In 2016, the portal won the award with the report “Tell me when it arrives” – harassment that cripples women, and in 2017, it won the article “Trans Brasil” – attempted crime on Brazilian highways.
