Former Vice President and Senator Hamilton Mourao (R-RS) is expected to lead the Republicans from February 2026, in the Federal Senate. Mourão will assume the role currently held by Senator Mesías de Jesus (RR), who will serve as Counselor to the Court of Auditors of Roraima (TCE-RR).
Messias was approved as Life Councilor of the Roraima State Court of Accounts (TCE-RR) by the Legislative Assembly in August, following the nomination of state Governor Antonio Denarium (PP). However, the senator has not yet left office to take up his new position. He should do so early next year.
Mourao’s entry into the party leadership is supposed to strengthen the party’s opposition to the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the Senate, in an election year. Currently, although Messias is in the opposition, he has a more balanced personality.
Last week, he publicly announced that he would vote for Jorge Mesías to the Federal Supreme Court. The Attorney General of the Federation was nominated by Lula for the vacant position.
Today, Republicans have five senators. In addition to Mourão, the abbreviation has other well-known names in Bolsonarianism, such as former Minister Damaris Alves (DF), Clitinho (MG) and Alain Rijk (AC).
Messias’s replacement
As it turns out CapitalsIn Paolo Cappelli’s column, Roberta Accioli, a dental surgeon specializing in facial contouring, is Messias’ replacement who will fill the vacant position in the Senate. She is also a Republican.
On her social networks, Roberta presents herself as an “authority in double chin liposuction” and shares videos about facial cosmetic techniques.
The CV indicates that Roberta worked as a nurse in public bodies in Roraima, between 2003 and 2013, and since 2015, she took over the general management of the emergency service associated with the state government.
