The Federal Ministry of Public Affairs (MPF), through the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro, sent a letter to the President of the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerg), Rodrigo Basilar, expressing its “concern over the inclusion of the property of the headquarters of the Tortora Nonca Mes group, in Botafogo, in the list of assets to be sold by the state.”
The document, signed by Attorney General Julio José Araujo Jr., highlights that although the public administration can sell public assets in accordance with legal requirements, it is necessary to prevent the sale from being used for “political or ideological purposes.”
According to the MPF, there is evidence that the decision to list a property can be linked to a “critical ideological treatment” of the entity’s actions.
For MPF, the Foundation plays an essential role in strengthening Brazilian democracy and protecting fundamental rights. The Public Prosecutor recommended that Al-Arj Company conduct a “careful technical analysis of the project.”
