Netanyahu was charged in 2019 with bribery, fraud and breach of trust. The trial began in 2020, and he became the first Israeli prime minister to be tried while in office – but he has yet to be convicted of any charges.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s request comes after US President Donald Trump called for a pardon for Netanyahu.

In a letter sent to Israel’s president earlier this month, the US leader stated that “it is time to let Bibi (Benjamin Netanyahu) unite Israel, grant him a pardon, and end this judicial war once and for all.”
