This Saturday, the Ría de Pontevedra presented the second test of the 27th Christmas Cruise Regatta, organized by the Real Club de Mar de Aguete in collaboration with the Council of Marín and Ence. The northeasterly winds are more stable than expected … This allowed the routes to be completed at an average density of 7 to 9 knots, although there were some wind holes in the final stretch.
The ORC fleet faced a 10.8-mile route: the initial clearing in front of the club towards Tambo Island and then two triangles above the lighthouses of the Bueu, Morrazán and Os Pelados rowing group. For their part, the veteran Classics covered a shorter route of 6.3 miles, with no markers and one triangle. Both routes provided upwind, lengths and sternways that tested all crew members.
ORC Class 1: Leader Change
“Ozosana” dominated the test practically from start to finish both in real time and in compensation. However, a wind gap on the final stroke left him stranded, allowing Orion to overtake him and take victory with a make-up time of 2 hours 24 minutes 06 seconds.
At 16 minutes Yukoncon 3 arrived, which also suffered from gusts of wind but it was a strong race. Ozosana, the victim of bad luck in the final meters, finished third, 21 minutes behind the winner.
ORC Class 2: “Vagalume” Triumph
In Category 2, ‘Vagalume’ proved to be the most consistent boat, sailing at a good pace to win the race with a total time of 3 hours and 29 minutes. “Squid” came in second place, 14 minutes behind, while “La Fanciola” closed the podium in the 21st minute.
Seasoned Classics: Daiquiri wins.
In the Veterans Classic category, Daiquiri was once again the quickest and most consistent, once again winning with a time of 1 hour 46 minutes. “Cassandra” completed the podium in the 30th minute, and “Atxuri” in the 48th minute.
The 27th Birthday Regatta continues to establish itself as one of the standard winter events in Galicia, combining tradition, competitiveness and the demanding regatta field of the Ria de Pontevedra.
