In the first stage of Gimnasia and Velez match in the forestReferee Yael Falcon Perez decided to stop the match twice because of noise that occurred meters away from the field and because of objects falling on the grass.
In the second half, the referee stated that a thrown object hit him and came close to causing his injury. Upon recovering the object that had been thrown from the stands, he learned it was an emergency hammer.
Several minutes later, while the match was still going on, Abrivid and members of the Buenos Aires Provincial Police, after hard work, managed to arrest the Gimnasia fan who had thrown the hammer.
The arrested person is called F.S. He lives in the city and was identified through the camera system in the club. The detainee also had a torch in his possession.
Arrest
The violent incident occurred 33 minutes after the start of the first half, moments after Marcelo Cielo Torres’ goal, which put “Lobo” in front. A hammer was thrown from the local stands, struck the turf and then bounced off Falcon Pérez’s face, alarming the players and briefly halting the game.
Although the referee was not seriously injured, the incident once again revealed the security gaps inside Argentine stadiums.
The situation did not end there: a thunder bomb also fell near the assistant, Mariana de Almeida, who was fortunately unharmed. Due to these events, the match had to be stopped for a few minutes to ensure the safety of all attendees before continuing the match.
The detainee now joins the corresponding violation case and could receive additional administrative sanctions, including being banned from entering stadiums.
Aside from this unfortunate episode, Gimnasia achieved a decisive victory that ensured its survival in the first division and left it close to the final tournament qualifiers. However, the institutional climate remains tense: the team did not train before the duel in protest of the leadership’s salary debts.
