On Wednesday (11/19), the civil and military police launched another phase of the containment operation in Villa Kennedy, western district of Rio, in a measure aimed at halting the territorial expansion of Comando Vermelho and suppressing crimes linked to the faction.

The operation brought together teams from the 34th Police (Pangu), the Drug Suppression Police Center (DRE-CAP), the Auto Theft and Theft Police Center (DRFA-CAP), as well as the Basic and Special Operations Command (COE) of PMERJ.
So far, eight criminals have been arrested and two were killed in the encounter.
The officers also seized two rifles and a pistol, and found a large quantity of drugs hidden in an educational unit used by the faction as a secret warehouse, a practice that, according to investigators, has become frequent in an attempt to obstruct the work of the security forces.
Secretary of the Civil Police, Delegate Felipe Cory, stated that the current phase of the operation reinforces the strategy of simultaneous attack on the armed wing and the financial structure of the faction. “The criminal organization is exploiting territorial expansion to commit a whole range of crimes. Through investigation and coordinated actions, we are weakening this structure,” he said.
The containment process is still ongoing, and further steps are scheduled to be taken in the coming days.
