The project aimed at conferring the title of Honorary Citizen of Brasilia on the President of the United States, Donald Trump, sparked heated debate and confusion at the plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF), on Tuesday (11/11).
The initiative, presented by regional MP Joaquim Roriz Neto (PL), was listed on the voting table, but ended up being withdrawn by the author due to a lack of sufficient support among parliamentarians.
Roriz Neto defended the project as a form of recognition of the US president, but the proposal divided the House of Representatives.
Opposition representatives described the honor as inappropriate and incompatible with the role of the Legislative Council.

Representative Fabio Felix (Psol) was the first to speak out against the proposal. The parliamentarian considered that granting the title to Trump would be a controversial political gesture that has nothing to do with the federal capital.
In turn, Chico Vigilante described the American president as a pedophile and said that he was “attacking Brazilian democracy.”
“She creates confusion all over the world. She thinks she can rule Brazil and the rest of the world. My grandmother said that in the end a monster will emerge. I have said here on this platform, more than once, that the monster is Donald Trump. I am convinced of that,” began Chico Vigilante (PT).
He pointed out, “Trump is a pedophile, people. Will this chamber grant the title of honorary citizen to those who have sex with children? Will this chamber grant the title of honorary citizen to those who attack Brazil’s democracy at every turn? Frankly, I think the chamber cannot grant this title.”
During the session, CLDF Chairman, MP Wellington Lowes (MDB), also commented on the project. The district stated that although he appreciated Joaquim Roarez, he did not feel comfortable agreeing to the honor. “I will vote for Joachim. But I don’t feel comfortable voting for him,” he said.
In defense of the initiative, Jorge Viana (PSD) pointed out that the Chamber has already given honors to figures from outside the Federal District, citing Rio Chancellor Mariel Franco as an example.
Speaking, Ricardo Valle (PT), Vice President of the Legislative Council, also requested the withdrawal of the project. He declared, “If there were any BESCO in the world, they would not have approved a project like this for any Brazilian president, whether from the left or the right; and we will not be embarrassed.”
Realizing that there would not be a quorum for approval, Joachim asked for the project to be evaluated later.
