The Cuiabá stage was only the third time in history that a driver had won both races. Remember all Stock Car scans
Saturday in Cuiabá was a historic day at the Autódromo Internacional de Cuiabá. The circuit witnessed the debut of the main national motorsport category, Stock Car, and was also the scene of the first night racing in its history.
The highlight of the stage was Ricardo Mauricio, who, in addition to breaking his two-year winless streak, won both his track debut and Stock’s debut at night, sweeping the weekend with victories in both stage races.
The category began with a two-race weekend format in 2014, and since then, including yesterday’s achievement, a driver has won both races only three times, two of which were won by the No. 90. Portal Parabólica notes the achievements:
Ricardo Mauricio – Goiania 2021
The first time a driver has swept the weekend was driven by Ricardo Mauricio, still in the RC Competições, on stage nine of 2021. With the revised calendar, Stock Car has two stages in the same weekend: stage eight will take place on September 18 on the mixed layout of the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna, in Goiânia, and stage nine on the outer loop of the following circuit. day, for a total of four races in two days at the track.
In the last race on Saturday, Ricardo Mauricio was already the hero of the weekend, winning the second race of the eighth stage, starting from pole position and winning by more than 6 seconds over Julio Campos, who finished second. But the great feat will be accomplished on Sunday.
On Sunday, Riccardo Mauricio, with his beard, hair and moustache, took pole position, set the fastest lap and won both races, which were marked by exciting disputes and a 0s010 victory over Thiago Camilo. In addition to the driver’s first full weekend since the introduction of two races in each stage, the races won by Riccardo Mauricio marked his 500th start in the category.
Rubens Barrichello – Goiania 2022
Less than a year later, this achievement was repeated on the same stage and on the same road. In the second stage of 2022, the outer ring of Goiânia once again became the site of a Stock Car sweep operation, this time by Rubens Barrichello, full-time.
Barrichello, like Mauricio, also held pole position at that stage and did not lose the lead in the first race, leading from start to finish and holding off Cesar Ramos to win by less than half a second.
In the second race, the former Formula 1 driver shined: he left tenth place and in a very crowded race thanks to the fast track, he rose to the field and claimed another victory. Rubens Barrichello would go on to win his second title in this category that year, and this stage marked an important milestone in achievement.
Ricardo Mauricio – Cuiaba 2025
Unlike the other sweeps, this time the driver did not win the pole: in the classification, Ricardo Mauricio finished only twelfth. However, it was this position in the classification that helped the driver win the first race.
Unlike seasons with other sweeps (where a qualifying position was valid for Race 1 and the grid was flipped between the top 10 based on finishing position), in 2025, the positions between the top 12 for the first race were flipped based on classification, allowing Riccardo Mauricio to slip out of pole position.
The first race, held on Saturday afternoon after heavy rain forced the postponement of the race that had been scheduled for Friday evening, saw Ricardo Mauricio dominate from start to finish, without many problems, even as he attempted overcut by Arthur Leist who was unsuccessful, making No. 90 the first winner of this class at Cuiabá.
The magic moment of the weekend occurred in race two, the first night race in Stock Car history, when Riccardo Mauricio put together the right strategy amidst a slew of safety cars in the race, and emerged in front after the pit window, with a very comfortable margin of second place. The final minutes of the race saw the driver “roam” around the track to claim his second career sweep, only the third in Stock Car history.
