A 10-year-old child was shot inside a municipal school in the Mari complex in Rio de Janeiro, this Wednesday morning (26), during an exchange of gunfire. Civil police are conducting an operation in the area and the Yellow Line, one of the city’s main highways, is closed intermittently.
The Civil Police stated that they had received intelligence that drug dealers from one of the factions were preparing to invade a community in the Mari Compound, which was dominated by the rival faction. The group of 16 favelas contains sections controlled by CV (Comando Vermelho) and TCP (Tercero Comando Puro).
According to information from residents, the child was transferred to a municipal health unit in Mari and will be transferred to the Getulio Vargas State Hospital in Banha.
The shooting affected Cidade Universitária, the main campus of the UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), located on the island of Fundão. A helicopter from the Core (Special Resources Coordination) landed on a grassy area on campus, near FAU (Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism).
In another building, the Center for Mathematics and Natural Sciences, students reported that a bullet hit the wall of a classroom. Pictures of the hole in the wall are spreading on social media. The UFRJ rectory was contacted by the report early Wednesday afternoon to confirm the information, but they did not respond as of publication of this text.
