Traffic was released on Rodoanel Mário Covas at around 10:10am on Wednesday (12), after spending five hours blocked by a truck with a fake bomb. Congestion reaches 14 kilometers in both directions at 11:30 am.
According to SPMar, the company that manages the route, there is traffic from kilometers 58 to 44 of the inner corridor, which is closest to central São Paulo. And another 14 km of congestion from km 30 to 44 on the outer track.
A trailer with a fake explosive device completely closed the Rodoanil lanes at kilometer 44 towards the Presidente Dutra highway near Itapsirica da Serra in Greater São Paulo.
The driver spent more than four hours with his hands tied and the fake bomb next to him, next to the passenger seat. He was rescued at 9:15 a.m. and attended by rescuers from SPMar, the franchisee that operates Rodoanel.
According to the police, the driver reported that he was kidnapped and that the criminals forced him to cross the truck on the road.
The military police, road police, and fire department went to the scene. Agents from the Gateway (Special Tactical Actions Group) arrived at approximately 8:15 a.m. and were boarded by the Prime Minister’s Águia helicopter.
A police officer wearing special clothing to protect him from the explosion approached the car at 9:15 a.m., spoke with the driver and took him out of the car. The driver was so stressed, he fainted and police officers carried him to a stretcher, where he was treated by doctors from the agency. He was transferred to Itapecerica da Serra General Hospital.
Gate agents entered the truck’s cabin and ruled out the possibility of an explosive substance.
The traffic interruption on Rodoanil Road caused repercussions on traffic in the capital, São Paulo, which recorded more than 640 kilometers of slowdown this morning. At around 11 am, the city recorded a 460 km congestion.
