After the success of Wicked, the popular Broadway production that received a theatrical version, Universal Pictures decided to embark on another adaptation. This time, it will be the story of Alice in Wonderland that will get a new live-action and musical version on the big screen.
As in the movie Wicked, which stars Ariana Grande, the studio will once again entrust one of the main roles to the pop singer. According to Deadline, singer Sabrina Carpenter, whose hit song Espresso was the opening act for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour in Latin America, will be responsible for bringing the main character to life, in addition to serving as the film’s producer.

As reported by the portal, the film will have Lorene Scafaria, who has already participated in productions such as Succession and As Golpistas, in charge of directing and scripting the film. The film promises to be a live-action musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic story, which became popular in theaters after Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation was released.
Production details and schedule have not yet been released. In 2021, Netflix was already planning a musical adaptation of Alice. But the project did not go ahead. At the time, Sabrina Carpenter celebrated the production and stated that she would like Harry Styles to be cast in the cast.
This will be Sabrina Carpenter’s first time returning to the big screen since Crush to the Heights 2 (2022), a teen romantic comedy on Netflix. As an actress, the singer has also participated in the series Girl Meets the World, on Disney Channel, and in other streaming-focused productions, such as Clouds (2020) and Emergence (2022).
However, the pop singer’s fans were already rooting for the artist to be cast in a live-action film adaptation of the fairy tale. In the middle of this year, when rumors of a remake of Tangled (2010) emerged, the singer was one of netizens’ main choices for the lead role. Also this year, Amanda Seyfried, the star of Mamma Mia (2008), stated in an interview that she would like Sabrina to be in the cast of Mamma Mia 3, which was supposed to be in production.
