In the series, the actress plays the life of a prisoner who lived in a love triangle with Susan von Richthofen and Elise Matsunaga.
When I found out I passed the casting audition tremblingLeticia Rodriguez worked for an audio-visual production company with a bureaucratic role that included contracts. Until then, unknown to the public, the actress was praised for her portrayal of Sandrão in the series about “celebrity prison” and is celebrating the recognition for her work.
“I lost control of my social media. I did not expect this reception. I am a person who, like the vast majority, is very insecure. There was fear about how she would be received, especially since a character like this is sensitive to the Brazilian public. So, I’m really happy. I received messages of all kinds, blessing me, encouraging me, thanking me, and flirting with me. It’s crazy,” she says in an interview land.
Leticia plays Sandrao, a character inspired by Sandra Regina Ruiz Gomez, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the kidnapping and murder of a teenage girl who was her neighbour, as she wanted to blackmail the young man’s family. In Tremembe prison, she had a romance with Elise Matsunaga and then with Susanne von Richthofen, but the latter ended after she received the advantage of serving an open sentence.
The series shows the passage of convicts through the prison complex, focusing largely on the love triangle involving Sandrau. Leticia believes that the partnership with Marina Rui Barbosa and Carol Garcia, interpreters for Susan and Elise respectively, was essential to being able to deliver a high-quality result.
“They were very dense characters. Our relationships were not good every day, because they are very difficult stories to deal with. Having the support of these women was very important. We made a pact to respect each other very much on a day when no one wanted to talk. Silence was very necessary in this work. So, we created many agreements, and in this way we created such a deep professional relationship,” recalls the actress.
In addition to the drama of convict relationships, Leticia also starred in hot scenes with both Carol and Marina, which also caught the attention of the audience. “There is a lot of mystery surrounding the more intimate scenes, but the truth is that our work is very technical. These are scenes that we study very carefully so that the audience gets into this story. People don’t understand that it’s about a specific technology. “It’s dance and choreography many times over.”
To replace Sandraw, Letizia studied books written about Susan von Richthofen and Elise Matsunaga and written by journalist Ulysses Campbell, who inspired the series, and also spoke with the actor who met the convict who inspired her character. “I didn’t even know if I could, but I went after him and texted him. “He helped me understand that my intuition was right, and that what I wanted to build for this character made sense.”
After studies and rehearsals, the actress went through a long characterization process, during which she gradually cut her hair until she reached the bleached mohawk she wears in the series. On recording days, she only used sunscreen on her face and covered up the tattoos on her body. Even without any makeup, many comments highlight the difference between the actress in real life and in person.
“I see a lot of comments saying, “Wow, they made the actress look terrible.” I even joked that I’m not really ugly? I only had sunscreen and a haircut, but I understand it was a vital combination. But, unlike the character, there are many people who have not committed crimes and dress this way and want to live in society and live their lives in peace. People who are often from the LGBT community and are excluded because of this image. It is important to think about this,” Leticia analyzes.
He praised the work in tremblingLeticia hopes that this work will open new doors for her in the Brazilian audiovisual market and hopes to achieve her dream of becoming a film actress. “I am an actress passionate about my profession. I want to tell all kinds of stories, as diverse as possible. My dream is to be a film actress in Brazil. Today, our artistic quality leaves no doubt about our potential. All the film industries out there have the same quality level as us and I want to be a part of that,” concludes the artist.
