The club issues an official statement after describing the player Djordney as a “monkey”
São Paulo issued an official memorandum on Wednesday (11/12) strongly condemning this racist act. The incident actually occurred against the athlete Djordne, from the U-20 team. The accusation of racial insult occurred during the match against Fortaleza at the Presidente Vargas Stadium in Ceara. The match was valid for the quarter-finals of the Brazilian Cup in this category.
The confusion began 26 minutes into the first half. At the time, Sao Paulo players accused a Fortaleza athlete of calling Djordney a “monkey,” SporTV reported. Due to the complaint, referee Paulo Vitor de Lima Pereira immediately stopped the match for approximately five minutes. In fact, the judge implemented the anti-racism protocol. However, play resumed shortly afterwards, and neither player received a card for the incident.
Sao Paulo defender Andrade, who was leaving the field, called for a tough stance. The defender confirmed that although he did not hear it, his colleagues heard the racist insult.
The player told SporTV: “We can no longer admit this. We have to get out of here and go to the police station. We have to see this as soon as possible.”
The club, in turn, promised to support the player and take appropriate measures.
In fact, São Paulo quickly took a stance on the incident. In a statement, Tricolor offered support to its player and promised to take the necessary measures to confront what it described as a “disgusting episode of discrimination.”
