Inside the quiet municipality of Angatuba, a city about 180 kilometers from the capital, São Paulo, the silence of the streets contrasts with the digital buzz that has spread on social media in recent weeks. The focus of this attention is neither an emerging influencer, nor a recently launched brand, but Susan von Richthofen, who was convicted of murdering her parents in 2002 and sentenced to more than 39 years in prison.
Susan, who has been freelancing since 2023, has found a new way to stay in the spotlight: selling handmade crafts and custom accessories.
What was previously just a secret page, created in 2023 to promote handmade products, has become a lucrative business showcase after the boom in viewership of the Tremembé series, launched by Prime Video. The production depicts the routine in the prison where Susan served her sentence for nearly two decades.

Image as product
Susan’s new stage depends not only on craftsmanship, but also on the narrative that accompanies it. The ex-convict’s story, even decades after the crime, continues to raise social, ethical and legal controversy. As a result, every post on his page provokes divided reactions: there is praise for social reintegration, fierce moral condemnations and, above all, a media phenomenon that feeds on interest in crime.
Behind the scenes, the image is strictly controlled. The same page advises its followers: “Other topics or questions will be ignored.” Requests outside the subject of the request will not be responded to. No reference to the past, no mention of the case, just the workmanship.
