São Paulo State Governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans) said that the state’s Public Security Minister, Guilherme Dirit, will do “technical work” as rapporteur of the anti-organized crime bill in the House of Representatives.
“Derret is above all a great researcher on the subject of security,” Tarcisio told the committee during a dinner promoted by CONEP (Brazilian-Israeli Federation) on Saturday (8) in São Paulo. “He will carry out artistic work, so that a response can be provided to this very serious problem faced by Brazilian society.”
Derrett is a licensed federal deputy and has returned to his position temporarily to report on the project. According to Tarcisio, he will remain away from the secretariat “as long as he needs” to complete the work.
The appointment of Dirit as rapporteur displeased the left and Lula’s government, because he was a Bolsonarian and committed to a tough line against crime. The minister must also be a candidate for the Senate next year.
He previously said that he intends to equate penalties for crimes committed with criminal factions with those committed with terrorist groups.
