Teacher: Ibanes says BRB chief will ‘clean up process’

Governor Ibanes Rocha (MDB) said that the new head of the Bank of Brasilia (BRB), Nelson Sousa, has the support to investigate investigations within the scope of Operation Zero Compliance into the alleged fraud worth R$12 billion in credit portfolios purchased from Banco Master by BRB.

“I am very confident (with the appointment of Nelson), he has all my support. I have already told him that and he will also have all my support so that he can clean up this process”, confirmed Ibanez, during the reopening event of the Autódromo Internacional de Brasília, this Thursday (27/11).

The governor’s speech comes the day after the Central Bank approved Nelson’s appointment. Ibanes also stressed that the president will have the freedom to choose the members of the bank’s board of directors and boards.

“He will have complete freedom within the BRB to form his board of directors, his finance board and his entire board of directors. This is one of my traits. I make sure that no one is appointed to allow the person to change his team and achieve the results that the city needs,” he added.

This Wednesday (26/11), Ibanes had already thanked the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF) for the approval and said that an internal audit would indicate the true value of the alleged fraud in credit portfolios purchased from Banco Master.

“An audit has already been set so that we get the real numbers. They started talking about 12 (billion Brazilian reais), but we need to fully calculate these numbers,” the governor said after introducing new buses from Viasão Pionera.

Who is the new president?

Nelson Souza has been a member of the Caixa Econômica Federation since 1979. He assumed the position of President of the Foundation in 2018, during the administration of Michel Temer (MDB). Previously, the banker served as president of Banco do Nordeste.

He also worked at Desenvolvimento SP – Banco do Empreendingor do Estado de São Paulo and Brasilcap, under the management of João Doria. Nelson Souza was vice president of Elo when he was tapped to take over BRB.

Now, he takes over the leadership of the BRB after the dismissal of Paulo Henrique Costa decided by the Federal Court, in the context of Operation Compliance Zero.
