Madrid, November 17 (European Press) –
The court in Jerusalem, which is deciding the corruption case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accepted his defense allegations and canceled Wednesday’s hearing in which he was scheduled to testify.
Netanyahu’s lawyers cited security reasons for not appearing in court, a strategy he has already used on several occasions with mixed results. However, on this occasion Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman accepted the defence’s version, as reported by Channel 12.
Netanyahu is being tried in three corruption cases, related to bribery, fraud and breach of trust. In one of them, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, were accused of accepting luxury goods worth 250,000 euros in exchange for political favors. In two other cases, the prime minister was accused of trying to negotiate more positive coverage in two Israeli media outlets.
The Prime Minister denies any crime and claims that all charges were invented in a political coup led by the police and the public prosecutor’s office. The process, which has seen constant delays since its opening in May 2020, appears to be long and there will be no ruling until at least next year.
In recent days, US President Donald Trump once again called for a suspension of the proceedings on the grounds that it was a “witch hunt.”
