The Director General of the Valencia Port Authority (APV), Enrique Belda, announced his voluntary resignation at a board meeting after two years in office and shortly after the departure of the other directors of the organization. Aurelio Acedo will replace him. The APV board, chaired by Mar Chow, held a meeting on Wednesday in which the decision to resign was announced based on his request to join the Ministry of Interior, Chow reported.
Enrique Belda Esplugues took office from Francisco Sánchez on December 31, 2023. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, and is a professional civil servant. Before assuming the position of Director General, he was Deputy Director General of Information and Communications Systems for Security at the Ministry of the Interior.
Belda will rejoin the Interior Ministry from where he was recruited into the APV after his resignation, a personal decision that must be respected, according to Zhao, with “full cooperation and harmony” to which he has no indication.
Aurelio Acedo, a doctor and civil engineer, with various master’s degrees and a long career at PAV and at the Melilla Port Authority, has been appointed to the position of Director General, replacing Belda.
The Board of Directors approved the granting of a concession to Toyota Logistics Services Spain to operate a terminal for embarkation, disembarkation, deposit, storage, ordering, monitoring, custody and transportation of new Lexus and Toyota vehicles at the southern quay of the Port of Sagunto.
It was also agreed to cancel the concession granted in 2022 to Puerto Natura Valley, a subsidiary of Baleària, to operate the passenger terminal, to rethink the distribution of berths envisaged in this project due to changes in traffic, in the maneuverability needs of new ships and in the connectivity of the Port of Valencia with other ports.
It is necessary to rethink the entire area dedicated to passenger traffic and implement improvements to the quays to provide the best customer service, keeping in mind at all times the correct integration between the city and the port, PAV said in a statement.
The PAV president stated that they want to put forward all the projects necessary to be able to service the ships, for which they have received the mandatory reports from Costas, with the aim of putting them out to tender in the first quarter of 2026 while maintaining operations.
These are the spaces at Turia Pier and Union Naval de Levante, from the South Pier to Transmed, including the Boluda shipyard area, to better serve passengers and have a large service area for passenger and cruise traffic.
He said he wanted to focus on “the best possible design” for all the platforms and did not specify whether the model would be a public station (“I’m not clear,” he noted). He also noted that it is a “technical puzzle” in which the environment, marine and hangars play a role.
Other aspects discussed are the agreement that allows the use of certain areas by the Financial and Border Unit of Valencia and the Regional Maritime Service of Valencia to be allocated to the prevention and prosecution of smuggling, guarding borders and port facilities, monitoring customs facilities, security of citizens, irregular migration, nature and environmental conservation and fisheries control and inspection, among others.
For this purpose, a building with an area of 2,335 m2 is being moved inside the Port of Valencia, an area of 802 m2 in the vicinity of the Naval Club of the Naval Service of the Civil Guard, another with an area of 198 m2 in Gandia and a warehouse with an area of 330 m2 in Sagunto.
