The Eco Christmas Bazaar features items made from recycled waste

The exhibition presents the works of 20 artisans from different cities in the state, in techniques ranging from carving to embroidery, from crochet to patchwork, including marine carpentry, macramé, ceramics, papier-mâché, and painting with pods and coffee grounds. All works use reused raw materials, such as straw, scraps of cloth and denim, thread, palm tree waste, paper, cardboard and seeds, in compositions that combine tradition and sustainability.

For artisan Teresa Ripa, who curates alongside master craftswoman Lina de Mello, the theme of reuse speaks directly to the present moment.

— Talking about reuse is an urgent matter; We need to look at disposal differently. Crafts perform this role to some extent. We work with discarded waste to build something very special. He says they are handmade items for other hands.

Lina highlights that Galbão’s proposal aims to highlight technologies that combine art and sustainability:

— Solid waste, fallen seeds, dried palm leaves, everything becomes raw material in making the pieces.
