Its length is 3.8 kilometers in the sea, 180 kilometers by bike, and 42.2 kilometers by running, for a total of 226.2 kilometers, making it the longest race on the circuit. The challenge requires a lot of discipline, focus and physical ability from the athletes. Therefore, in order to encourage more people to venture into this sport, the “Ironman 70.3” circuit was established in 2005. The number refers to the total distance of the race in miles, i.e. 113 km, of which 1.9 km is swimming, 90 km is cycling, and 21.1 km is running.
The race is also known as the “Half Ironman” and in Brazil, in 2025, it has already been contested in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Florianópolis, and now arrives in Aracaju to conclude the season.
Worldwide, there are more than 40 full-distance races, covering more than 20 countries, and more than 100 half-distance races, held in more than 40 countries. In Brazil, the first Ironman race was held in 2001 in Florianopolis (Santa Catarina). Since then, with the exception of 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19, the country has always hosted stages of this sport.
