A strong gas escape and fire occurred this afternoon in the Caballito neighborhood of Buenos Aires, due to the explosion of a pipe on the public road, at the intersection of Reglus and Formosa Streets. The fire spread to a height of 12 meters, and there was an injured person and many people evacuated, but the fire chief indicated that they were able to reduce the height of the fire.
The man who suffered severe burns is of legal age and was transported, while four mobile phones are currently working in the area to control the fire and track down any other injuries. The accident occurred when Edesur was working on site due to an electrical emergency and a Metrogas pipe broke. He also knew that the struggle would take at least an hour and a half.
Sources from Buenos Aires firefighters reported that the same institution was transferred “to Regulus 300 due to a large gas leak that extended to tongues reaching a height of 12 meters.” The official report of workers in the area, in an interview with this medium, stated that “the individuals attacked the fire station with two lines of 38 mm and one line of 63 mm, while SAME helped a man suffering from severe burns.”
Members of the city’s Civil Defense were present at the scene of the accident, as well as from the Metrogas company, which was working on the pier with the aim of cutting off gas supplies. “The height of the fire actually decreased once it reached the pipe,” noted Diego Correa, the city’s fire chief. “We have a man working on the opposite sidewalk who suffered burns to his upper extremities and was transported by SAME to Durand Hospital.”
He added: “The situation is now under control, for everyone’s peace of mind. There are two cars completely burned and another with partial damage. There is no danger of explosion, and during the evacuation of the neighboring building, nine people were evacuated. By working with four lines, we reduced the temperature and contained the fire.”
Regarding the trigger, Correa explained: “They were doing some kind of work on the sidewalk and the fire started because it was caused by one of them. We will continue for a few hours until we reach the complete cut. And 20 meters from the zero point, some pistons were placed because there is no direct switch to make the cut.”
