Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was arrested on Saturday (22/11) after violating the electronic ankle bracelet he had been using since July this year. But what was the Federal District Government (GDF) spending during the period the former president used the equipment?
Bolsonaro spent 127 days using the device, until he used a welding machine to try to pierce the ankle bracelet, which is one of the reasons that led to his pretrial detention.
In the contract between the Secretariat of the Prison Administration (Seape-DF) and UE Brasil Tecnologia, the administration has to pay R$8.19 per day for each ankle bracelet. Therefore, Seape-DF estimated the monthly value of each piece of equipment at R$245.84.
However, the folder only needs to be pushed when the ankle bracelet is active. As a result, the total cost of each “ankle” will be R $ 8.19, multiplied by the number of days the equipment has been active at the guard of the DF prison system.
In the case of Jair Bolsonaro, who spent 127 days with his ankle bracelet, until the attempted rape, the calculation was R$8.19 x 127, giving a total of R$1,040.13.
fine
The violation of the former president’s electronic ankle bracelet has other immediate consequences for the public purse. GDF will have to pay R$737.52 to replace the device.
The value is three times the monthly cost of the ankle bracelet, as stipulated in the contract concluded between the Prison Administration Secretariat and the company supplying the equipment.
According to the document, when the ankle bracelet is damaged, a fine is automatically applied, and initially the government itself is responsible for the loss.
Later, if it wishes, the GDF can collect the amount from anyone who caused the damage, in this case former President Bolsonaro. But Sebi informed the column Meryl Pineiro There is still no definition for this charge.
Violations in DF
The former president’s violation of the electronic ankle bracelet was not an isolated case in the federal district. Data obtained by the report from Seape show that 453 incidents were recorded in the past three years.
According to the folder, from January to October 2025, 145 devices were compromised. Last year, there were 156 events, and in 2023, there are 152 records.
Also according to the folder, all equipment breached this year so far has been recovered and reused at no additional cost to GDF.
