The Hortensia Herrero Center for the Arts is celebrating its second anniversary. The selected works offer a journey through the artist’s symbolic world, and have been meticulously selected by Kiefer and Hortensia Herrero, who traveled to the artist’s studio in Barjac and Paris, to learn more about his work and participate in the selection.
The relationship between Hortensia Herrero and Kiefer began nearly ten years ago when the art collector acquired the painting “Flowers of Evil,” which was part of the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition in 2016. It is a work that can be seen in the main room of the Art Center alongside two other works by Anselm Kiefer that are on permanent display.
As CAHH’s artistic advisor and curator, Javier Molins, explains, “Anselm Kiefer is one of the pillars of the Hortensia Herrero collection, whose works are on display in the Noble Room of the palace, and we thought it was a great way to start CAHH’s temporary exhibitions.”
The rise of international audiences

About Anselm Kiefer
Anselm Kiefer was born in 1945 in Donaueschingen, Germany. In 1992 he moved to France, where he lives and works between Paris and Barjac, near Avignon. The artist studied law, literature and linguistics before entering the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, and later in Düsseldorf, where he was a student of Joseph Beuys.
