
The number of Brazilians out of work due to mental health is large: nearly half a million, according to the Ministry of Social Security. Based on these numbers, the “Profissão Repórter” reporting teams, led by journalist Caco Barcellos, took to the streets in search of stories about those whose lives have been changed by the pressure and overload of the professional environment. The program will be broadcast on Tuesday (11).
Public school teachers are among the professionals most affected by burnout. A recent study conducted by the Union of Teachers and Municipal Employees of São Paulo, in partnership with the University of the South Pacific, revealed that 85% of professionals report symptoms of anxiety and depression. Many people reach exhaustion. Between January 2024 and February of this year, more than 34,000 sick leaves were granted to teachers in the municipal network for mental health reasons.
